Childminder Development Grants

 

Childminder Development Grants are now available to Childminders to enhance safety/quality in their service and to give financial assistance to new or prospective Childminders in their initial set-up costs.

Kerry County Childcare Committee will administer the grants in Co. Kerry.

 

Who is eligible to apply for funding?

To be eligible existing and new Childminders must:

-care for/intend to care for at least 3 children part-time or care for at least 1 child full-time and 1 child part-time

-have completed the 20 hour Quality Awareness Programme or equivalent childcare training or be notified to the Pre-school inspection team

-have appropriate insurance

-be notified to the Preschool Inspection Team if required to do so

-agree to operate as a Childminder for a minimum of 2 years following receipt of the grant

 

What can the grant be used for?

Safety costs such as fire blanket, smoke alarms, socket covers, cupboard locks, first aid kit, stair gates, fireguard etc.

Equipment/toys such as outdoor play and safety equipment, indoor equipment, appropriate toys, books etc.

 

Amount of the grant

The maximum grant available to a Childminder is €1,000 and the recipient must provide matching funding of €100.  

Childminders can also opt for 2 resource packs of toys/equipment in lieu of the cash grant or for 1 resource pack and a reduced cash grant.

There are 4 Resource Packs to choose from: 

Pack A: for Babies—3 years

Pack B: for 3—5 years

Pack C:  Arts & Crafts / Physical Activity / Magnetism Kit

Pack D: School Age Pack
