Childminding Training and Resources
®Quality Awareness Programme (QAP) This is a 10-hour introductory/refresher course consisting of 5 modules: 1. Why choose Childminding? 2. Child Development - An Overview 3. Hygiene, Health & Safety 4. Well-being of Children 5. Play The main objectives of the QAP are: -to provide participants with an awareness of the issues involved in a quality childminding service, -enhance the knowledge, skills and professional status of Childminders -develop the Childminder’s confidence and motivation -encourage networking among Childminders ®FETAC Level 5 Start your own Business Course This course covers the following topics: Structure of the Business Plan, Testing your Market, Type of Business, Business Start-up Operations, Financial Management and Control ®Workshops, Seminars & Information Sessions Money Matters Seminar This is a one-day workshop looking at the business side of childminding - it focuses on practical ideas on keeping financial records of a childminding business, e.g., Am I making a profit—setting realistic charges? Manual book-keeping, computerised book-keeping, Tax & PRSI. Tax Information Session These are three-hour sessions with a Tax Consultant and covers all aspects of the tax code for self-employed people as well the Childcare Services Relief. All the above training will be organised at any suitable venue in the county if there is sufficient interest in the area. Library Resources Kerry County Childcare Committee and South Kerry Development Partnership have books and publications of relevance to Childminders and others involved in childcare. One of the publications is The Lagan Family Daycare Network’s Best Practice Guidelines for Childminders. This covers the following topics: Sharing the care with parents, Illness, Play Activities, School Age Childcare, Nutrition, Health and Safety requirements, The business side of Childminding.
