Funding Available for Childminding
National Childcare Investment Programme 2006 - 2010 Notified or Voluntary Notified Childminders can apply for capital funding for necessary renovative work or equipment relating to their childminding service. Such applications will be subject to a maximum amount of €25,000.
Childminder Development Grants A grant, up to a maximum of €1,000, is available to Childminders and the recipient must provide matching funding of €100. The grant can be used to cover safety costs such as fire blanket, smoke alarms, socket covers, cupboard locks, first aid kit, stair gates, fireguard etc. and to purchase equipment/toys such as outdoor play and safety equipment, indoor equipment, appropriate toys, books etc. Childminders can also opt for 2 resource packs of toys/equipment suitable for different ages in lieu of the cash grant or for 1 resource pack and a reduced cash grant.
Tax Relief The threshold for the Childcare Services Relief is €15,000, i.e., if the Childminder minds up to three children in his/her own home (excluding his/her own children), and childminding earnings do not exceed €15,000. To qualify for this tax relief, the Childminder must notify their County Childcare Committee that they are providing a childminding service, register as a self-employed Childminder with the local tax office. If a Childminder does not apply for or is not eligible for this tax exemption, then the childminding income is fully taxable. However, a variety of expenses which he/she may have incurred in earning that income, e.g., expenditure on toys, equipment, insurance, proportion of service charges, proportion of telephone, marketing, secretarial, accounts, staff etc.
