About Us

Claire O’Toole & Deirdre Fleming, Childcare Development Officers, work to implement South Kerry Development Partnership’s role in Childcare.

They work closely with Kerry County Childcare Committee and the Childcare Development Workers of the Local Development Companies in the county to ensure the promotion of best practice childcare provision in south Kerry.

The South Kerry Development Partnership’s Childcare programme is shaped by the following factors:

-The lack of appropriate childcare facilities is recognised as a constant  barrier to people, particularly women, in accessing employment and education

-EU legislation requires that equality of opportunity exists between men and women and that particular consideration is given to facilitate participation by women and children

-In the past ADM Ltd. requested that Partnerships would include a childcare strategy in their plans

-The Childcare Act has greatly affected the operations of childcare services and many childcare projects in South Kerry require training, support and financial assistance.

The Main Strands of the South Kerry Development Partnership’s Childcare Programme are as follows:

-The Childcare Co-ordinator works with Pre-school leaders and management committees, supporting their work in areas such as management training, responding to Childcare legislation and preparing Funding  Applications.

-The South Kerry Childcare Network has been established to pool resources and share information.

-Information on Childcare Issues and Developments is disseminated through Information Seminars, Network meetings, the Childcare Website and a monthly Newsletter.

-Support and funding is provided for Childcare Training.

-The Childcare Resource Unit offers books, videos, laminating, binding, photocopying etc. in the Sean Scoil, Killorglin.

-There are 17 Parent & Toddler groups and a Parent & Toddler  Support Network has been established. A Parent & Toddler Support Pack has been distributed to each group in the South Kerry area.
